Jack Frost’s nipping at our noses
Well the temperature has really dropped this week and the thermometer outside our unit was reading -7 this morning brrrrrrr!
While we’re glad of an excuse to drink more hot chocolate it is really important for everyone to remember how important it is to stay warm during this cold snap.
It’s also worth remembering how much harder it is for people over 65 and those with reduced mobility to cope in the cold weather. If you can try to keep an extra eye on your elderly relatives, friends and neighbours please do. Just checking that someone’s home is warm enough or that they have something hot to eat can make all the difference.
Here are a few of our hints for looking after yourself and others in the cold weather.
Draw your curtains and dusk and keep your doors closed to keep out draughts
Have regular hot drinks and at least one hot meal a day if possible
Wear several layers of clothes instead of one bulky layer
Keep as active as possible at home
If you are over 65, have reduced mobility or existing medical conditions like heart or lung disease your home needs to be heated to at least 18 degrees.
Take care everyone and enjoy the winter sunshine!
