The well known saying “you are what you eat” shouldn’t be ignored because the food you put in to your body can have a massive impact on your well being.

You should not only eat well to stay slim but to keep healthy and free from infections and diseases. In fact there are many foods you can eat that are known to help boost your immunity and decrease your chances of catching the flu or other common ilnesses. Here are ten of them:

1. Yoghurt

Eating yoghurt can be a delicious way to boost your immunity. Not only does it contain lashings of vitamins such as vitamin B12, vitamin B2, magnesium, potassium and calcium, but it contains probiotics too. Probiotics are also known as friendly bacteria that promotes a healthy digestive system and boosts immunity.

2. Oats and Barley

Fiber found in oats and Barley is great for your digestive system, your heart and is well known to help beat off the flu. Beta-glucan which is found in oats and barley will activate your white blood cells which will help you immune system fight off infection.

3. Garlic

Garlic has been used for thousands of years to ward off the common cold and flu. Just one clove of garlic contains 12mg of potassium, 5mg of calcium and over one hundred sulphuric compounds that is known to kill off bacteria and infection.

4. Mushrooms

Believe it or not mushrooms are also grest to give your immune system a big boost. A recent study had proven that shiitake mushrooms in particular were most beneficial to your health. These mushrooms are grown in Asia especially for culinary and medicinal purposes.

5. Citrus

Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are loaded in vitamin C and antioxidants which are great immunity boosters. They also help aid the absorbtion of Iron into the blood.

6. Broccoli

Broccoli is certainly one of the best vegetables you can include in any meal to help with health and wellness. It contains vitamin C, A and E, and various different antioxidants too. Brocoli is best if eaten raw or slightly under-cooked.

7. Spinach

Next time you make a salad or soup place a couple of almonds on top to help give your immune system that extra boost. They are packed full of vitamin E and manganese. Brazilnuts and cashews can also have a similar affect.

10. Ginger

Lastly add a little ginger to your diet to give your body that much needed boost it needs during colder months. Ginger has been found to activate T-cells, acts as an antioxidant and eliminate xenobiotics.
